  • Re: Python Scripting in Mac Rhino

Steve, yes I wrote that after ACADIA last year. As for web services, it seems it would be crucial to support a RESTful style architecture: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Representational_State_Transfer#RESTful_web_services For instance, a GET request to:     http://localhost:3000/points.json Should ...

  • Re: Python Scripting in Mac Rhino

Steve- First of all, let me just say that hearing "Web Services" makes me smile. If I could have a RESTful iRhino Server running on my mac (at, say http://localhost:3000), I would be the happiest man in the world. This would make it trivial to speak with iRhino using any number of languages. But back to the question of what I would ...

  • Re: Python Scripting in Mac Rhino

Thanks for the response Steve. I think the biggest issue is probably the lack of the publicly facing plugin architecture / SDK. I will most definitely be hitting you up for help in implementing my Ruby library (still a work in progress). The main fears I have are probably in how the implementation is tied to Rhino. I love my Mac ...

  • Re: Python Scripting in Mac Rhino

I must admit I find this fairly disappointing and wouldn't mind some architecture-related clarifications. Why not use Mac's wonderful support for python (or ruby please!) natively? If I'm understanding this correctly, you're looking for all new plugins (regardless of platform) to be developed using proprietary Microsoft ...

  • Re: Scripting support outside of Rhino

I would love to build an Grasshopper for OS X, although my C++ is a little weak.  What we need is a Grasshopper where the components are completely transparent -- just thin visual wrappers for *actual code*. I think the direction some of these programs are heading is just ruining young designers minds.  They become so dependent on ...

  • Re: Scripting support outside of Rhino

Thanks for the response Marlin. Alright how about my ultimate feature request: Rhino OS X Server A new version of Rhino (or plugin) that allows us to communicate with Rhino through a REST-like interface, whether from the localhost or remotely.  My heart is beating like crazy just thinking about it!!

  • Scripting support outside of Rhino

As a Mac user and a programmer, I am absolutely in love with the Terminal and TextMate (http://macromates.com).  I'm also in love with Ruby and have been working on some geometry scripting libraries.  My question is:  What is the level of support outside of the Rhino "silo".  Could I write a plugin that allows an ...
